About this product
304 stainless, highly resistant to rust.
Interlocking one metre sections in three face heights. The one to choose next to pale paving.
Stainless is the range to pick when the edging sits against something you do not want stained.
Corten and bare steel both shed run off while they weather. 304 stainless does not weather at all, so pale paving, render, decking and light gravel stay the colour they were.
It comes in three face heights. 50 mm is a lawn edge, 100 mm is the general purpose depth, and 200 mm is for holding back a level change or a deep mulch bed.
At 0.5 mm gauge it is the most flexible metal edging we sell, which makes it the easiest of the three to run around a tight circle.
Sections are one metre and interlock. Three 100 mm spikes come with every metre.
The argument for stainless over corten or black steel is almost entirely about what is next to the edging.
Weathering steel is supposed to shed a little rust while its patina forms, and black coated steel will do the same wherever the coating gets chipped. Neither matters against grass or dark gravel. Both matter a great deal against limestone paving, a rendered wall or new decking.
304 is the standard austenitic stainless grade, the same specification used for kitchen worktops and outdoor handrails. It does not need a coating because the chromium in the alloy forms its own passive layer.
The trade off is stiffness. At 0.5 mm this is a third of the thickness of the corten range, so it bends more easily, which is good for curves and less good for holding a long straight run dead true. On a straight run, space the spikes evenly rather than clustering them.
Choose the face height by what the edging is holding rather than by how it looks: 50 mm to stop a mower, 100 mm to stop grass runners, 200 mm to retain a change of level.

Will it discolour by the sea?
Coastal air can leave light surface tea staining on 304. Wipe it with warm water and a soft cloth, never a wire brush, which would damage the passive layer.
Does the price change with the height?
Yes. Each face height is priced separately because it is a different amount of steel.
Can I mix heights in one order?

Is it visible once installed?
Barely. At 0.5 mm the top edge reads as a thin bright line, which is why it suits modern planting schemes.
