Brush off dry soil. Let them dry naturally away from a radiator or direct sun, which stiffens the leather. Do not machine wash.

1.2 mm cowhide, because edging has sharp edges.

Reinforced palm, elastic wrist, and thick enough to handle cut steel without thinking about it.

If you are installing steel edging, wear gloves. A cut stainless section has an edge on it.

These are 100% cowhide at 1.2 mm, which is thick enough to be genuinely cut and puncture resistant and still soft enough to pick up a spike.

The palm is reinforced with a second patch, which is where a garden glove wears through first.

The wrist is elastic, so soil, bark and gravel stay out of the glove rather than collecting in it.

Four sizes: S, M, L and XL.

Leather Gardening Gloves, M

Most gardening gloves are a coated knit, and for weeding that is the right tool. For anything involving metal edging it is not.

Leather Gardening Gloves, M

Leather at 1.2 mm gives you a real barrier against a cut edge and against a spike going through the palm, which is the actual injury risk when you are driving spikes with a mallet.

Leather Gardening Gloves, M

The other advantage is that leather breathes. A coated knit or a rubberised glove traps sweat, and on a long afternoon that is what makes people take the gloves off, which defeats the purpose.

Leather Gardening Gloves, M

They are not waterproof and they are not meant to be. Soaked leather gloves should be dried away from direct heat or they go hard.

Size down rather than up if you are between sizes. A loose leather glove is worse than no glove when you are handling small fixings.

Not sure yet? That is fine.

You have 15 days from delivery to change your mind under this shop's own returns policy: send the goods back in resaleable condition at your cost, and the refund covers the goods but not the original shipping charge. Nothing is deducted for handling.

If it turns up faulty, damaged or not as described, that is on us. Your province's consumer protection law covers you, we pay the return postage, and you can have a repair, a replacement or your money back. Read the full detail on our refunds and returns page, or ask us anything before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are they made of?

100% cowhide leather.

How thick is the leather?

1.2 mm, which is thick enough to be cut and puncture resistant and still soft enough to pick up a spike.

What sizes are there?

S, M, L and XL.

Which size should I choose?

Size down rather than up if you are between sizes. A loose leather glove is worse than no glove when you are handling small fixings.

Are they waterproof?

No, and they are not meant to be. Leather breathes, which is why it stays comfortable over a long afternoon.

Can I machine wash them?

No. Brush the dry soil off instead.

How do I dry them?

Naturally, away from a radiator or direct sun. Heat makes leather go hard.

Why leather rather than a coated knit glove?

For weeding a coated knit is fine. For handling cut metal edging and driving spikes you want a real barrier, and a knit does not give you one.

Do they protect against a cut steel edge?

That is what the 1.2 mm cowhide is for. A freshly cut stainless section has a genuine edge on it.

Is the palm reinforced?

Yes, with a second patch, which is where a garden glove wears through first.

Do they keep soil out?

The wrist is elasticated and tightens, so soil, bark and gravel stay out of the glove.

Are they only for gardening?

No. The same glove suits fencing, carpentry, stonework, general yard work and handling timber.

Will they stiffen over time?

Leather stiffens if it is dried too fast or stored wet. Dried properly they stay supple.

Do they come as a pair?

Yes, the price is per pair.

Are they suitable for handling thorny plants?

Yes. Cowhide at this thickness resists rose and bramble thorns well.

Can I use them for chainsaw or heavy machinery work?

No. These are general work gloves, not certified protective equipment for powered cutting tools.

Is the price the same for every size?

Yes, all four sizes are the same price.

Do they need any treatment before first use?

No. Use them as they come.

How much is delivery?

Shipping anywhere in Canada is CAD 25, and it is free once your order reaches CAD 100. There is one shipping service rather than a choice of speeds.

How long does delivery take?

Five to seven days, after a 24 to 48 hour handling time while the order is picked and packed.

Do you ship across the whole of Canada?

Yes, to any Canadian address, at the same flat rate and in the same 5 to 7 days once the order has been handled. We ship to Canadian addresses only.

Is there a minimum order?

No. The per metre and per section ranges are sold by the unit, so you can order one metre or one section if that is all you need.

Can I change my mind after it arrives?

Yes, under this shop's own policy. Canada has no general cooling-off period for an online purchase, so this is our policy rather than a legal right: you have 15 days from delivery, the goods come back in resaleable condition at your cost, and the refund covers the goods but not the original shipping charge. Nothing is deducted for handling. Email us with your order number first.

What if the item is faulty or not what was described?

That is a separate right under your province's consumer protection and sale of goods law, and it does not depend on the 15 days. You can ask for a repair, a replacement or a refund, and we pay the return postage.

Who pays return postage if I simply change my mind?

You do, unless the item is faulty or we sent the wrong thing.

Can I cancel before it ships?

Yes, free of charge. Email us with your order number within 12 hours: orders are handled within 24 to 48 hours, and once one has shipped it can no longer be cancelled.

How do I track my order?

You get a confirmation email with a tracking number once the order ships. Items in one order can travel in separate parcels.

What payment methods do you take?

Card payment and PayPal, both through a secure checkout. Card details are handled by the payment provider and never reach this site.

What currency are prices in?

Canadian dollars, and that is what your card is charged.

Do you sell to trade or in bulk?

Yes. Use the wholesale quote page with the lengths and quantities you need and we will come back with a price.
