About this product
Spare spikes, in the pack size the job needs.
Spiral nylon stakes that hold edging, weed fabric and artificial turf. They will not rust and they will not lift.
The plastic garden edging kit already comes with three spikes per metre. These are for when that is not enough.
The usual reasons are loose or sandy ground, a run that has to hold a tight curve, or fixing something other than edging.
They are spiral nylon rather than steel, so there is nothing to rust and nothing to stain paving underneath.
The spiral is the working part: a straight peg walks out of wet ground over a winter of freezing and thawing, and a spiral has to turn to move.
Packs of 10, 50 and 100.
Spike spacing is the single thing that decides whether an edging run still looks right in three years.
On firm loam, the three per metre supplied with the edging kit is plenty. On sand, on new topsoil that has not settled, or anywhere a run is holding a curve under tension, double it.
Nylon is the right material here for two reasons. It does not corrode, so nothing weakens at the ground line where a steel peg would rust first, and it does not leave a rust mark on paving or a path edge.
They also work well outside their obvious job. Weed fabric, artificial turf underlay and ground cover all need pinning down, and a spiral holds those better than a U pin in soft ground.
If you are pinning heavy fabric or turf into hard or stony ground, the steel U shaped garden stakes are the better tool.
Still deciding?
Not sure yet? That is fine.

If it turns up faulty, damaged or not as described, that is on us. Your province's consumer protection law covers you, we pay the return postage, and you can have a repair, a replacement or your money back. Read the full detail on our refunds and returns page, or ask us anything before you order.
Spiral nylon, so there is nothing to rust and nothing to stain paving.
How is a spiral better than a straight peg?
A straight peg works its way out through a winter of freezing and thawing. A spiral has to rotate to move, so it stays put.
Do I need these if I am buying the garden edging kit?
Usually not. The kit already includes three spikes per metre. These are for loose or sandy ground, tight curves, or fixing something else.
How many per metre should I use?
Three per metre in firm loam. Double it on sand, on fresh topsoil that has not settled, or where a run holds a curve under tension.
Can I use them for weed fabric?
Yes, in soft ground. For heavy woven fabric or hard ground the steel U shaped stakes hold better.
Will they work under artificial turf?
Yes, that is one of the standard uses.
Can I use them for paver edging?
Yes.
Will they rust or corrode?
No. That is the main advantage of nylon over a steel pin.
Do they mark paving?
No, which a rusting steel pin next to a path eventually will.
How do I get them out?
Turn them out rather than levering them, and they can be reused.
Do I need a mallet?
A rubber mallet in firm ground. In soft soil they push in by hand.
Which pack should I buy?
Count the metres of edging and multiply by three for the standard rate, then round up to the next pack size.
Are they the same spikes that come with the edging kit?
They are the spare packs of the same spiral type.
Will they hold in clay?
Yes. Clay holds a spiral very well once it is in.
Can I use them in gravel?
Drive them through the gravel into the ground beneath. A spike sitting only in loose gravel holds nothing.
Are they UV stable?
They are made for outdoor ground use and are normally covered by soil, mulch or gravel.
Is the price per spike or per pack?
Per pack.
How much is delivery?
Shipping anywhere in Canada is CAD 25, and it is free once your order reaches CAD 100. There is one shipping service rather than a choice of speeds.
How long does delivery take?
Five to seven days, after a 24 to 48 hour handling time while the order is picked and packed.
Do you ship across the whole of Canada?
Yes, to any Canadian address, at the same flat rate and in the same 5 to 7 days once the order has been handled. We ship to Canadian addresses only.
Is there a minimum order?
No. The per metre and per section ranges are sold by the unit, so you can order one metre or one section if that is all you need.
Can I change my mind after it arrives?
Yes, under this shop's own policy. Canada has no general cooling-off period for an online purchase, so this is our policy rather than a legal right: you have 15 days from delivery, the goods come back in resaleable condition at your cost, and the refund covers the goods but not the original shipping charge. Nothing is deducted for handling. Email us with your order number first.
What if the item is faulty or not what was described?
That is a separate right under your province's consumer protection and sale of goods law, and it does not depend on the 15 days. You can ask for a repair, a replacement or a refund, and we pay the return postage.
Who pays return postage if I simply change my mind?
You do, unless the item is faulty or we sent the wrong thing.
Can I cancel before it ships?
Yes, free of charge. Email us with your order number within 12 hours: orders are handled within 24 to 48 hours, and once one has shipped it can no longer be cancelled.
How do I track my order?
You get a confirmation email with a tracking number once the order ships. Items in one order can travel in separate parcels.
What payment methods do you take?
Card payment and PayPal, both through a secure checkout. Card details are handled by the payment provider and never reach this site.
What currency are prices in?
Canadian dollars, and that is what your card is charged.
Do you sell to trade or in bulk?
Yes. Use the wholesale quote page with the lengths and quantities you need and we will come back with a price.
