Shipping & returns
Tracked shipping anywhere in Canada. It is free on orders of $100 or more, and a flat $25 below that. Allow 5 to 7 days, after a 24 to 48 hour handling time.
You have 15 days from delivery to change your mind under this shop's own returns policy: send the goods back in resaleable condition at your cost, and the refund covers the goods but not the original shipping charge. Nothing is deducted for handling. You cover the cost of returning it unless the item is faulty.
If it arrives faulty, damaged or not as described, we put it right at no cost to you, return postage included. That right comes from your province's consumer protection and sale of goods law, not from this policy.
None once laid. If you lift a section, shake the soil out before folding it away rather than storing it wet.

About this product
Woven fabric that stops weeds and still lets water through.
UV stabilised polypropylene, two metres wide, cut by the metre. Planting stripes every 30 cm.
Weed barrier is the layer that decides whether a new bed still looks new in two years.
This is woven polypropylene rather than the spun fleece sold in most garden centres. Woven fabric has a real breaking strength, so it does not tear when you pull a mulch rake across it.
It is breathable by design: water and liquid feed go through, light does not, and that is the whole mechanism.
Two metres wide, sold by the metre of length. It comes boxed and folded rather than on a roll.
The white stripes every 30 cm are a small thing that saves a lot of measuring when you are setting plants out.
The point of a weed barrier is light. Almost every annual weed seed in a bed needs light to germinate, so a layer that blocks light and nothing else does the whole job.
That is why permeability matters so much. A plastic sheet blocks light and also blocks water, and the bed underneath goes anaerobic and sour. Woven polypropylene blocks the light and lets the rain and the feed through.
Woven rather than spun bonded is the specification to care about. Spun fleece is cheaper and tears along its length as soon as it is under tension, which is exactly what happens when you top it with gravel or bark and then rake it.
Lay it with a generous overlap between sheets and pin it before you mulch. The U shaped garden stakes are the right fixing; nylon spikes will pull through woven fabric under load.
It cuts with ordinary scissors and does not fray, so you can shape it around established plants rather than lifting them.
Still deciding?
Not sure yet? That is fine.

If it turns up faulty, damaged or not as described, that is on us. Your province's consumer protection law covers you, we pay the return postage, and you can have a repair, a replacement or your money back. Read the full detail on our refunds and returns page, or ask us anything before you order.
By the metre of length, at two metres wide, with no minimum order.
Is it on a roll?
No. It is supplied boxed and folded.
What is it made from?
UV stabilised woven polypropylene.
What is the difference between woven and spun bonded fabric?
Woven fabric has a real breaking strength and takes tension. Spun bonded fleece is cheaper and tears along its length as soon as it is topped with gravel or bark and raked.
Does water get through?
Yes. It is breathable by design: water and liquid feed pass through and light does not, which is the whole mechanism.
Why does it have stripes?
The lines sit 30 cm apart and are there to set plants out in a straight line without measuring.
How much overlap should I allow?
At least 10 cm between sheets, and pin the overlap.
What should I pin it with?
The U shaped garden stakes. Nylon spikes pull through woven fabric under load.
Can I cut it?
Yes, with ordinary scissors, and it does not fray, so you can shape it around plants that are already in.
Can I use it under gravel?
Yes, and under bark, artificial grass and ground cover.
Will it stop established weeds?
It stops seeds germinating because it blocks light. Clear perennial weeds and their roots before laying it, or they will push through.
Does it go under a vegetable bed?
Yes. It is chemical free, so there is nothing to leach into the soil.
How long does it last?
The UV stabiliser is there so sunlight does not make it brittle. Covered with mulch or gravel it lasts far longer than exposed.
Can I plant through it?
Yes. Cut a cross where the plant goes and fold the flaps back under.
Does it need mulch on top?
It works either way, but a mulch layer protects it from UV and looks better.
Is it heavy to handle?
No. It is light enough to carry and cut and heavy enough to stay where you put it.
What if I need a wider area covered?
Lay parallel runs with a 10 cm overlap and pin the seam.
How much is delivery?
Shipping anywhere in Canada is CAD 25, and it is free once your order reaches CAD 100. There is one shipping service rather than a choice of speeds.
How long does delivery take?
Five to seven days, after a 24 to 48 hour handling time while the order is picked and packed.
Do you ship across the whole of Canada?
Yes, to any Canadian address, at the same flat rate and in the same 5 to 7 days once the order has been handled. We ship to Canadian addresses only.
Is there a minimum order?
No. The per metre and per section ranges are sold by the unit, so you can order one metre or one section if that is all you need.
Can I change my mind after it arrives?
Yes, under this shop's own policy. Canada has no general cooling-off period for an online purchase, so this is our policy rather than a legal right: you have 15 days from delivery, the goods come back in resaleable condition at your cost, and the refund covers the goods but not the original shipping charge. Nothing is deducted for handling. Email us with your order number first.
What if the item is faulty or not what was described?
That is a separate right under your province's consumer protection and sale of goods law, and it does not depend on the 15 days. You can ask for a repair, a replacement or a refund, and we pay the return postage.
Who pays return postage if I simply change my mind?
You do, unless the item is faulty or we sent the wrong thing.
Can I cancel before it ships?
Yes, free of charge. Email us with your order number within 12 hours: orders are handled within 24 to 48 hours, and once one has shipped it can no longer be cancelled.
How do I track my order?
You get a confirmation email with a tracking number once the order ships. Items in one order can travel in separate parcels.
What payment methods do you take?
Card payment and PayPal, both through a secure checkout. Card details are handled by the payment provider and never reach this site.
What currency are prices in?
Canadian dollars, and that is what your card is charged.
Do you sell to trade or in bulk?
Yes. Use the wholesale quote page with the lengths and quantities you need and we will come back with a price.

Nothing in this range is cut to a customer's measurement before it ships: the sections are supplied whole and the customer trims them if a shorter run is needed. Canada has no general cooling-off period for an online purchase, so what covers a change of mind here is this shop's own returns policy: 15 days from delivery, return postage at the customer's cost, the original shipping charge not refunded and nothing deducted for handling. Provincial consumer protection and sale of goods law covers faulty, unsafe or misdescribed goods separately, and nothing in the returns policy limits it.
